in some “off line” edged weapons training

I met with Morgan Thomas President of Sharkee Training
Knives in reference to a demonstration of Spontaneous
Attack Survival at the Mid Atlantic Tactical Officers
Association. Morgan showed me his latest product,
a polypropylene training knife made in the size
and shape of the common folding knife. Morgan produced
this after many requests from law enforcement clients. |

The
knife forums are full of posts with people asking
what knife people recommend. Of course everyone
has there own opinion as well as drawers full of
knives they had to have but don’t carry anymore.
I am no different except now my kids take my knives. |

is not often that I am forced to admit that I find
out about a new practical defense tool late.
Well, that is a half-truth, I have knows about Rick
Hinderers Kubaton Pens for some time. Truth is that
I had just underestimated them. While talking to
Rick at the New York Show I began fondling one of
his pens. After a brief discussion I ended up using
it in one of the MCS demos. |

When
my buddy Jeff Ferrand owner of Alpha Innovations
and producer of my Jaw Jacker Knuckle Duster told
me about his idea for The Tactical Dog Leash I kinda
blew it off. Basically the idea is the Jaw Jacker
with a hole on the front where you attach the supplied
dog leash. |

Tech Go Bag
The
SO Tech Go Bag was designed for aircraft crews as
a grab and go back. the first thing that strikes
you is the slim profile compared to the normal tear
dropped one we are used to with most bags. |

Subclaw
The first
thing to cross my mind when I opened the Boker Subclaw
was that it looked like a folding Emerson La Griffe.
The 1 7/8 inch bead blasted blade just looked like
it would shred anything it came in contact with.
The Subclaw was designed by knifemaker Chad Los
Banos AKA Daywalker on the forums. |
Raven
Concealment Holster
Last weekend while helping
out with a pistol course I wore the Raven rig. The
first thing that I noticed was how well it fit against
the body. I can only describe it as wearing a wide
ACE bandage around your waist and sliding a gun
in it. Mike tells me this is accomplished by Raven
using a pancake design instead of a fold over. |
Wilderness
Frequent Flyer Belt
I have to tell you that I
was not totally sold on the Frequent Flyer because
of the Delrin loops instead of the parachute rigger
type hardware I had come to know and love. Even
though I hate to admit it, I was wrong. This has
become my favorite belt. |

As
I was walking through SHOT 08’ with my buddy
Duke I commented to him how even in a place as huge
as SHOT I usually see about half a dozen new thinks
that I rank above “hey that is kinda cool”.
Even more so when it comes to knives. I don’t
really collect and I am not loyal to the newest
knives of any specific maker. But every once in
a while I run across a knife that I just cannot
do without. |

I have been wearing
the Wilderness belts for over a decade and all MCS
instructors wear the Frequent Flyer. Well I did
until SHOT 08' when I stopped by to see the Wilderness
Family and was introduced to the Titanium Instructors
Belt. |

Tech Mission Go Bag
During
out conversation Jim showed me the Mission Bag.
At first I was not overwhelmed. Just looked like
another sling bag. But after picking one up I have
to say that it is a great bag that is full of options
without trying to be the be all end all, since we
all know there is no perfect Bag of Evil, and realize
it is all about the pursuit of the “perfect”
bag. |

Alpha
Innovations has just introduced the Stylus. It is
a in the shape of a pen and made out of the same
polymer as their Kubatons and the Jaw Jacker. The
fact that everyone these days seems to carry a Blackberry
or another PDA makes this thing a necessity that
attracts no undue attention. |
